Library Role

Real, reusable technical artefacts for evidence-based decisions

The Library provides maritime stakeholders with access to a curated collection of models supporting vessel performance analysis, energy optimisation, emissions assessment, routing, and system dependability. It enables organisations to explore, compare, and test operational and technological strategies before implementing them in real-world environments.

01

Vessel performance & operations

Models for speed optimisation, fuel consumption analysis, voyage planning, and hull condition assessment.

02

Energy & propulsion systems

Models supporting hybrid propulsion, alternative fuels, battery systems, fuel cells, and power management strategies.

03

Emissions & compliance

Models for CO2 forecasting, CII and EEXI assessment, EU ETS accounting, and FuelEU Maritime scenario analysis.

04

Routing & navigation

Weather routing, just-in-time arrival optimisation, port synchronisation, and traffic-aware planning.

05

Dependability & system behaviour

Models addressing reliability, availability, safety, resilience, and cybersecurity aspects of digital and physical ship systems.

Model Provenance & Projects

Built on validated European research

The Open Model Library federates models produced within leading European research and innovation initiatives, including DT4GS, FOREMAST, and WARRaNT. Models are developed and refined through collaborative processes involving industry partners, research organisations, and technology providers.

01

DT4GS

Digital Twins for Green Shipping.

02

FOREMAST

Digital twinning for automated and low-emission vessels.

03

WARRaNT

Dependability and resilience of waterborne digital systems.

How the Library Is Used

From models to decisions

The Open Model Library is not intended as a theoretical archive. It supports practical use cases across operational planning, investment assessment, regulatory preparation, and digital twin workflows.

Compare alternatives

Compare alternative fuels, propulsion strategies, retrofit options, and investment scenarios.

Evaluate operations

Evaluate operational policies such as slow steaming, routing strategies, and energy optimisation.

Plan compliance

Support regulatory reporting and compliance planning using structured emissions and performance models.

Test resilience

Test resilience and dependability under simulated conditions before real-world implementation.
